Load Forecasting Methodology

PJM will retain an independent consultant to perform a review of the PJM load forecasting model. The review will be conducted in three phases. The first phase will evaluate the economic driver(s) used in the forecast and the second phase will examine the model’s treatment of weather uncertainty. The due date for Phases I and II is September 2010 so any changes can be implemented for the 2011 Load Forecast to be issued in January 2011. The third phase is conditional on the outcome of Phases I and II. If pursued, Phase III is likely to examine issues such as the use of an electricity price term in the model, methods to forecast demand side response, and validation of the forecast. The due date for Phase III would be September, 2011 so any changes could be implemented in the 2012 Load Forecast.
