Scope:
- Build a new 500kV substation (Jacks Mountain) by tapping the existing Conemaugh – Juniata and Keystone – Juniata 500kV circuits. The circuits will be connected with a breaker and a half scheme and a total of 1000MVARs of capacitors
- Replace wave trap and upgrade a bus section at Keystone 500kV.
- Replace two wave traps at Juniata 500kV
- Relay changes at Juniata 500 kV sub
Need: Based on the PJM analysis of 2013, the Jack’s Mountain project is required to resolve voltage problems for load deliverability reliability criteria violations starting June 1, 2013
Permits:
- NPDES individual permit – Approved
- Environmental and Sediment Control permit – Approved
Energization: PJM required in service: 06.01.2014
Land Acquisition: PenElec purchased the property for the project in Oct 2008
Engineering / Design:
- Site grading and storm-water management design has been revised and all drawings were reissued for permitting in January 2011. Permits approved on January 26, 2011.
- Transmission line engineering is in process to support Spring 2014 outages.
- Detailed Substation engineering has been postponed until Summer of 2013.
Equipment Procurement / Delivery:
- Transmission and Substation Dead-end Structures have been designed and are ready to be procured when needed to support Spring 2014 outages.
- Transmission line hardware procurement has been delayed until mid 2013 for delivery in 2014.
- Substation procurement has been delayed until mid 2013 for delivery in 2014.
- 500kV Breakers are on order and delivery scheduled for October 2014 & January 2015.
- 500kV Cap Banks are on order and delivery scheduled for January 2015.
- 500kV Disconnect Switches are on order and delivery scheduled for October 2014.
