PJM has directed the transmission owners to suspend efforts on the PATH project.

APS and AEP assigned baseline project with PJM id’s:

  • AEP b0490
  • APS b0491 and b0492

Scope:  New 765kV line from existing Amos substation to new Kemptown (765/500 kV) substation connecting with new Welton Spring (765/500 kV) substation.
Need:  Based on the RTEP analysis PJM conducted in 2010, the PATH Project is required to resolve violations of NERC Reliability Standards, which are projected to occur beginning in June 2015. PJM is performing analysis as part of the 2011RTEP with updated input assumption to determine the timing and need for this project.
Permits: Applications for approval to construct the PATH Project are being withdrawn from West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.
Energization:  PJM required in service: Under review.
Land Acquisition:  

  • Welton Spring Substation property acquired in September 2009.
  • Kemptown Substation property acquired in December 2008.
  • Survey permission, survey support and property negotiations will continue in 2010.
  • Right of Way negotiation activities commenced in all three states in October 2010 and will continue in 2011.

Engineering / Design:

  • Preliminary line engineering/design .

Equipment Procurement / Delivery: 

  • Preliminary procurement activities in progress.

Construction:

  • Scheduled to begin following receipt of state commission approvals to construct
