Generation Basics
 
This 4-part online course is designed to provide the participant with a basic level of knowledge on topics critical to generation dispatch in PJM. Part 1 discusses generator theory which includes a review of basic operating principles, A.C. generator components, generator rotational speed and generator characteristics. Part 2 discusses fossil generation which includes a review of a generating unit's principles of operation. Part 3 describes nuclear & hydroelectric generation and how each of these types of generation operate. Part 4 discusses combustine turbines (CT) & wind power generation including how they operate and examples showing the basic design of a CT.
