Large Load

The rapid growth in demand for electricity in PJM is largely driven by the proliferation of Large-Load customers, including but not limited to data centers. PJM has taken multiple short-term actions to increase generation supply while managing the additional Large-Load demand in keeping with the industry’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge.

Interim Resource Adequacy Service (IRAS) provides a framework to connect new Large Load customers that bring their own new power supply. For new Large Load customers without their own new power supply, IRAS offers an alternate level of service to avoid sacrificing reliability or adding costs for existing customers.
