Markets and Operations
PJM operates a competitive wholesale electricity market and manages the high-voltage electricity grid to ensure reliability for more than 67 million people.
Planning
PJM’s long-term regional transmission planning process provides a broad, interstate perspective that identifies the most effective and cost-efficient improvements to the grid to ensure reliability and economic benefits on a systemwide basis.
Independence
An independent Board oversees PJM’s activities. Effective governance and a collaborative stakeholder process help PJM achieve its vision:
“To be the electric industry leader – today and tomorrow – in reliable operations, efficient wholesale markets and infrastructure development”
Civic & Community Outreach
PJM strives to have our social responsibility efforts reflect the values of the diverse communities we serve. Likewise, our employees support a wide variety of organizations that reflect their unique energy and passion for different causes.
Impact on Our Environment
PJM supports sustainability through energy-efficient building features, LEED-aligned design, employee-driven innovation and electric vehicle charging stations. At its Valley Forge and Milford campuses, a waste-to-energy program diverts 100% of landfill-bound waste.
Code of Conduct
The PJM staff operates under a strict Code of Conduct PDF that commits employees and the organization to the highest ethical standards. “Service with Integrity” guides all of PJM’s business dealings.
The code applies to all employees of PJM, including full-time, part-time, co-op, summer intern and sole-source agency personnel. Staff members must sign an agreement each year indicating that they will comply with the terms of the code. The code requires that if an employee owns any securities issued by a PJM Member, eligible customer or market participant, the securities must be sold within six months of the start of employment at PJM. The same six-month rule applies to the employee’s spouse and dependent children.
The code addresses a wide range of matters in PJM’s transactions and business dealings. The code includes provisions for information confidentiality, open communications, conflicts of interest and regulatory requirements.
